Faith, Farming, and FamilyBluegrass Belties Farm & Orchard is owned and operated by Jimmy and Katie Martin-Sorrell alongside their 3 children Broedy, Whitley, and Reece. All members of this hard working family manage the farm, which includes cattle, an orchard, high tunnel and all maintenance.
It is important to the Martin-Sorrell family to provide the freshest high quality food possible to people who can't produce their own but wish to have a more natural diet. In 2014, Bluegrass Belties joined the Kentucky Proud Homegrown For Heroes Program. The Martin-Sorrell family also contributed service animals to the fellow veterans among other special needs families for 7 years. We are periodic visitors with our service/therapy animals to 2 Nursing Homes and 1 Special Education School. And as the orchard continues to grow, the Martin-Sorrell's will be donating portions of every fruit harvest to families in need and/or Local Food Pantry's. |
Who We Are |
As the family grew, they decided to move back to Kentucky to be closer to their family and farm. The family farm is located in Nicholas County near Blue Licks State Resort Park. Jimmy is a veteran and retired with 20 years of serving our country in the United States Air Force. Katie is a retired from the Army, MEPS after serving more than 20 years.
Jimmy and Katie's children are also very involved on the farm and are growing to be cowboys and cowgirls in their own right. Broedy, the eldest son, was an officer in his local FFA and 4H Chapters and is an avid hunter on the farm. He was in charge of the horses, and poultry, as well as caring for a neighbors farm with cattle. Broedy has already proven to be a wonderful ambassador for the farm. He has now moved on to serve his country and is a 2LT in the US Air Force after graduating from the USAF Academy in Colorado May 2022. He is greatly missed at home, however, he assists in farm matters when his time allows. It is his respite from the quick paced service lifestyle. Whitley their only daughter, is a guardian and friend to their cats and dogs. Whitley enjoyed her champion dog and cat breeders and travel to show their Scotch Collies and Ragdoll Cats all over the country. Her tenacity has propelled the cattery into a great resource for the farm that she was forced to move on from due to furthering her education early at Morehead State University's Craft Academy in 2022. Reece, the youngest son, works all over the farm. He is up and coming in assisting with the cattle and more challenging farm tasks. In his spare time he loves sculpting from clay and building models of many different things; he is very interested in Paleontology. All enjoy monitoring the Farms' Beehives. Everyone is involved on the farm and memories are made everyday. Jimmy is working hard to make the farm the very best it can be so that it may be in their family for generations to come. The Martin-Sorrell family believes in working towards holistic farming methods and work purposefully toward a more sustainable agricultural future. |
